Maisy Burgess
Maisy Burgess is a hand-cut print painter whose artwork is based upon appropriated photography. Burgess’s work is characterised by fragmented layers of colour. The visual expression has a meaningful function, story and narrative are fundamentals. They can be seen as a burst of memory, a depiction of a moment. Recent projects have a fascination with the sense of urgency of how we record ourselves and how society deals with this. Her layers of imagery forcibly slow down the encounter with the image, and explore a relationship between painting and the photographs. This fragmenting of reality makes us look at the value we place on imagery, in contrast to how the image has become disposable.
