I was initially inspired by viewing the picture of Olive Morris in the National Portrait Gallery, she was a Jamaican born political activist of Afro-Caribbean descent during the 1970's. She was known for her contribution in the campaign against racism, oppression, and sexism in Britain. She joined the Black Panther movement and the co-founded the Organisation of Women of African and Asian Descent. Olive Morris’ story led me to want to shed light on the contribution of black British women to this country. I wanted to celebrate and empower black British women with this collection.
