Sophie Youngs
Aspiring Designer, with a specialist degree in Woven Textiles. I was drawn to Weave as my discipline due to my fascination in the journey of yarn to fabric. My passion mainly lies within texture, taking inspiration from surrounding natural environments to create designs for interior applications. I have a strong interest in how the combination of texture, colour and objects can transform a space into a desired atmosphere. My final major project, Fractal Future takes influence from coral reefs and beaches; investigating how patterns and elements of nature can translate into an interior setting through woven cloth to encourage wellbeing and inspire feelings of productivity and relaxation. The fabrics in my collection are constructed with natural fibers, the surface texture is created by processes such as collapse weave, aiming to encourage a calming effect by its tactility. I hope to develop my skills further by working within the interior textile industry.
