Esme’s key interests lie within inventive pattern cutting, through the disruption of usual seams, unconventional openings and folding techniques to achieve, zero waste designs. Esme’s FMP, Disrupting Attitudes influenced by non-conforming attitude within punk and gender performance within the subculture. Investigating expression through garments by playing with how clothes can enhance different bodily features, with unconventional openings and exposure of the body through sheer fabrics. The collection shows strength and chaotic-ness through elegance, it creates an attitude when worn through antithesis materials and fabric drape. The use of upcycling a classic white and blue strip shirt, portrays how such a heavily gendered garment can be altered, by changing the structure it removes previous gender associations. Esme’s future plans are to continue exploring creative pattern cutting, broadening manufacturing skill set, while on an MA or within an independent fashion label.
