Emma Leech
Emma is inspired by the unconventionality of knitwear and enjoys pushing the boundaries by working with non-traditional yarns. Her project is centred around women being daring with a fetish element that she pushes through colour and asymmetric proportions. She has created a space that blurs the distinctions between underwear and outerwear with a combination of soft, second skins and harsh armour qualities that celebrate female strength. Weirdly proportioned shapes are a reference to garments hanging off the body that connote the intimate moment of undressing but not completely. The bandage elements in Emma’s work reference the behaviours women are fronted with through male contemporary attitudes and how women are restricted in an oppressive society for simply being a woman. Emma’s future ambitions are to enhance her knowledge in fashion and accessory in either a Masters degree or an independent brand, having an interest in exploring harsher materials with a love for craft.
