Emily Connell
After University, I hope to work in museums conserving textiles and curating exhibitions, so it seemed fitting to design an exhibition for my final year costume project. Having completed various placements with independent museums, the National Trust and the Theatre Royal Nottingham as well as my University studies, I have acquired a broad range of skills which are reflected throughout my coursework. My final project titled 'In The End, We Won' (as said by suffragette Annie Kenney after receiving the vote) showcases key moments in the political careers of 9 suffragettes, with a particular focus on working-class women whose stories are lesser told and concludes with a contemporary piece exploring modern day feminism and the journey to equality. I aimed to replicate historical dress making techniques for an authentic feel throughout my work.
