Ellen Anderton
‘Enlarged Obscurity’ delves into the curious spectacle of the evolving deep blue sea. My graduate collection emulates the forms of our adapting oceanic life reacting to climate change. Inspiration has been taken from my experiences of people with sight impairments and I have produced a collection exploring colour, hue contrasts and 3D approaches expanding on this. Embellishment develops from rich hand techniques, digitally 3D embroidered skeletal corals, heavily beaded and manipulated fabrics: the mix of the traditional and modern illustrating the transition of coral bleaching. I am passionate about embroidery for fashion and the additive process of creating bold sculptural forms on the body. Sustainability in the textile industry and inclusive design approaches are aspects I hope to build awareness for and push through my practice in my work to come.
