Ciara Barnes-Kitera
Ciara Barnes lives in Leeds and is currently working in Nottingham. Her half Tanzanian and Polish background contributes widely to her work taking form in acrylic abstract paintings of the female form, and she occasionally drifts into mixed media and digital art. In 2021, Ciara had curated and exhibited in a group exhibition Below Bricks, where she worked with artists Callum Newton, Eve Gallagher, and Bentley Grammar. The curation was exhibited at Little Brickhouse, showcasing her pieces ‘her’ and an abstracted form of a torso tufted into a rug. In early 2021, she had also exhibited at 1 Thoresby Street in an exhibition named ‘Dior Scream’ where her tufted collection was displayed. The collection was two rugs that were designed to be worn to create an illusion of an exaggerated concept of the ideal female figure. Ciara graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2022 and continues her practice in the exploration of gender within cultural norms.
