Charis Hipkiss
Hi, I’m Charis and I am a textile designer with a keen interest in high-performance fabrics. My final year project Evolving Camouflage is inspired by the mountainous landscapes of Wales. The idea of camouflage as a direct representation of nature’s textures, with the intention to conceal the wearer, inspired my use of print and repeat in this project. My final collection is for women’s outdoor wear that protects and empowers the wearer. With sustainable design practices in mind, the garments are made of durable, recycled, high-performance fabrics and have an element of transformability to them to enhance the wearer’s experience and provide longevity. I envisioned this collection to contain designs that adapt within the natural changing environments they are worn in, achieved by using smart materials and transformable fabric inks, such as hydrochromic. My collection is fuelled by escapism, evoking an uplifting mood to supplement the natural endorphins released when we exercise outdoors.
