Memories provide comfort, something we look back on to instil a sense of contentment. So how can this sense of comfort be translated into a garment, and would we value our clothes more if they reflected our character? Interwoven Narratives is inspired by the common qualities of memory, observing broken objects which echo the fragmented nature of our reminiscences. This collection has a strong sustainability focus, using reclaimed materials, the narratives of the material’s past are merged with those of the wearer. It also comes with a repair booklet, encouraging people to prolong their garment’s life and use repair techniques to document experiences and inscribe their own personal meanings. This project brings together my passions for hand weaving and embroidery, and showcases processes like ikat to create distinctive design outcomes which give a strong sense of my creative identity, something I hope to continue developing after my degree.
