Annabel Franks
Annabel’s work focusses on a historical, cultural and personal exploration of inherited trauma and the hypothesis that creative practice can be a route to recovery. Her MA studies have been the platform for her emergence as an artist and researcher, underpinned by an investigation into arts-based research methodologies. Annabel works across print and embroidery, on paper and textiles, unearthing and expressing themes of identity and belonging, shame and loss. ‘Lost Property’ is a collection of pieces responding to the history of European Jews, and, specifically, the impact of the Holocaust on Annabel’s family. Annabel is a language graduate from Manchester University and worked in the fashion and beauty industries until starting the MA Fashion & Textile Design at NTU. She is planning to continue her creative practice and research interests with a practice-based PhD.
