Anna Rottner
A multilingual tailor and knitwear design student with a background in traditional men's tailoring that sparked an interest for designing knitwear for men. The collection `Escaping Expectations´ is a project about storytelling through colour. The colour choice of pink and blue is a response to socially constructed gender norms that to me, restrict modern menswear. Pink stereotypically gets associated with femininity and blue usually gets associated with masculinity. In order to break those perceptions, the two colours have been kept very separate in the first outfit and start blurring throughout the collection. Parts of the garments have been dip dyed to get the right colour hues. Furthermore, most of the waste yarn has been re-purposed to minimise the overall waste produced. Parts of the garments have been shaped and are entirely zero-wasted. During my final year, I was awarded the Rolf Noskwith Bursary Award which supported me in funding my final collection.
