Material (Dis)connections is an exploration of the relationship between material and the body. Questioning the way in which a worn item changes when it is on or off the body is central to the research that underpins this project – inspired by the idea of worn items as storytellers, it looks into the imprints left on the item from the body and vice versa. Experimental in its approach, the project includes materials such as plaster and wood alongside knit. These material-led investigations have culminated in a collection designed on/for the body but re-contextualised on its display, encouraging the viewer to disregard any preconceptions they may have and view the works simply as objects in their own right; thus allowing them to form their own connections.
