Barnaby Barnes
Throughout his DFTV experience Barnaby has taken inspiration and design cues from visionary contemporary and historical filmmakers alike, striving to create engaging and provocative cinematic environments in the same vein as several of these inspiring individuals. This has led to two final projects based on both the literary works of controversial Soviet writers Boris and Arkady Strugatsky’s and cinematic works of seminal director Sergei Eisenstein respectively. Each design aims to marry period accurate architecture and layered set dressing for an engrossing visual style, whilst his focus has simultaneously remained on the viability and reality of such complex sets, this includes exploring on the environmental and structural feasibility, which has in turn benefitted his development in realising designs in the real world. Looking forward, Barnaby relishes the chance to continue utilising his broad range of skills in a creative workplace and continuing to be inspired by art and film.
